You can tell this one is a girl because she has little tufts of hair on her horns. Males fight and the hair gets rubbed off as a result.

A skua steals a baby chinstrap
A skua antagonizes a chinstrap penguin, causing it to stand up and reveal the baby under its feet. In the second frame, the stolen baby penguin can be seen in the skua's beak. There is also a lone macaroni penguin in the rookery, much like Lovelace from Happy Feet. Photo taken on Half Moon Island.

Gentoos on the lookout
This photograph of gentoo penguins standing guard on Barrientos Island was taken on my first Antarctic landing. A unique feature of this island is that it is free of ice, and the land is delicately covered with moss that is struggling to survive.
